I am guilty of being a fan of technology… I am too pragmatic though to let it cloud my judgment, or at least I like to believe so!
Recently, I was faced with a really cool internal project. Our engineering team really wanted to play with MapReduce. I was not surprised as Carlos had presented at Rules Fest 2010 and 2011, I believe, on that very topic… What I needed to focus on was the business benefit. Was it technology for the sake of technology?
That led Colleen and I to spend time brainstorming on the true value of this cool technology, and more importantly why our users should care.
The answer is obvious: it allows you to run large-scale simulations. But is it such a big deal in reality? Do enterprises really care to get their simulation reports produced that much faster?
What became eventually apparent was that there was a whole realm of quality assurance, testing and simulation activities that expanded beyond “large-scale simulation”.
We have heard over and over again the requirements of business users that need to ensure that their decision logic does what it is supposed to. IT organizations also get nervous about turning over business rules writing to business analysts that do not have a developer’s background… We collate those use cases in a set of 4 use cases for improving decisions through better QA, testing and simulation. We will present them in a free webinar on Wednesday 6/27 at 9am ET.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!
