Microsoft Excel spreadsheets have been used for many years to store business knowledge and capture the business rules as requirements for an implementation project. Many businesses continue to maintain their decision logic in this well-known format. Once captured they are often maintained and referenced by business and technical teams and in some organizations they are consumed by an automated system. Although it is common to use spreadsheets as part of a decision management system, there are limitations as to how well they can be implemented.
